In the meantime, with the help of donations from Ulm-Jungingen (St. Josef), the Christmas market in Engen and a large number of private donations, the construction of teacher houses no. 2 and 3 has begun. The two houses will be combined into a semi-detached house. You can see the progress of construction from the two pictures that school director Saad Luyinda sent us.

A week later, it was the turn of the Christmas market in Ulm-Böfingen. Members of the parish of Zum guten Hirten started setting up the huts early in the morning. The visit was really worthwhile. It is simply a pleasure to see so many people who volunteer their time to help others (a large number are made available to the SHAK Junior School). It is incredible what was tinkered, roasted, cooked, bobbin-made, read, sung and crafted. Some photos may give a small impression of the event.

Christmas market in Engen. For the first time, the association was represented with its own town at the Christmas market. New territory for us! Many people were interested in the project. Father Zimmermann had also mentioned our collection project during the Sunday service. In the end, with combined forces/helpers, we were able to exceed our target of 1000 euros and ended up with a net profit of 1400 euros. This, together with the parish of Ulm-Jungingen and the diligent confirmands, secures the financing of the third teacher Tinyhouse! At least as valuable were the countless beautiful and enriching conversations with the visitors.

Last Wednesday, I had the pleasure of presenting the SHAK Junior School in a small talk at the Catholic Women’s Community in Mühlhausen. The group is well known in Hegau. The women are very active and make various things during the year, such as baby and children’s clothes, cuddly toys, self-knitted socks, staple bags, Santa Claus boots and much more. They then offer their handicrafts for sale at various markets in the area. The proceeds always go to a social cause.
This time it was the SHAK Junior School: the committee decided to donate 2500 euros to build the 2nd teacher’s tiny house! Many thanks to the Mühlhausen women’s community under the leadership of Inge Duffner.

Schooldirector Saad Luyinda wrote us:”SHAK Junior School’s Pioneer P7 candidates pose for a group photo after successfully completing their Primary Leaving Examination (PLE).
We celebrate this important milestone in our school’s history. Thank you to everyone involved, including parents, teachers, the school management team and all our friends and well wishers who contributed in various ways to make this noble dream a reality: “Seeding the Future” for these children.
May God bless you all.”

I can’t keep up with updating the website as fast as the Ugandan builders are raising the house! They are always one step ahead of me!
The first Tiny teacher’s house is actually already plastered and coloured. It’s simply incredible. And it’s beautiful too. Now there were only seven left! At the Christmas markets in Engen and Ulm, we want to push ahead with the financing (2500 euros per house) just as quickly!

And now you can already see the roof of the teacher’s house.

The first example house continues to grow rapidly. The next step is to build the roof.

After the “summer break”, it’s back to “work”. In the management committee, we discussed the next necessary steps with the SHAK Junior School’s board of directors. Director Saad Luyinda made it clear to us that it is now time to urgently improve the conditions, especially the accommodation options for teachers. It is clear that good teachers can only be recruited and kept at the school in the long term if the living conditions are right for them. The fact is that there is no village infrastructure in Bulabakulu, such as houses, streets, stores, etc. The teachers also live on the school grounds. The teachers also live on the school grounds – so far in very modest huts, with the cooking area outside the hut.
We are now focusing all our efforts on improving the living conditions of the staff. S. Luyinda sent us designs for small, simple teachers’ houses. We found the designs very appropriate and successful. Take a look at the plans for yourself.
We are already preparing for the Christmas markets in Ulm and Engen. We are producing, crafting and planning to be present at these markets with our products. We will keep you up to date!

The Board of Directors of SHAK Junior School has deliberated long and hard and agreed on a new project list, a new “to-do list”. Please continue to support us with these new projects that are necessary for the school!

A special greeting at this point goes to our student Johanna.
Many thanks to Johanna!
She donated all the money she received for her First Communion to the Friends association. Yes, unbelievable. It took us a while to realize this. What a joy for the children at SHAK Junior School. A child from Germany is thinking of the children in Uganda!
It’s been a while since the last update. But there is news to report again. After the school kitchen and canteen, the new, extended toilet facilities have now also been completed. As we still had some money left over, principal Saad Luyinda suggested plastering the walls of some classrooms – as far as the money was enough. The advantages are obvious: it is now possible to hang posters and teaching materials on the walls. The omnipresent red dust is no longer so noticeable. Another small improvement in the situation.
The next, bigger step, after consultation with the school management, will be to improve the living conditions for the teachers. We will report on this here shortly.
29/04/2024
The construction of the new, second toilet facility is now almost complete. The final work is underway. The two pictures that Director Saad Luyinda sent us give an impression of this.
23/04/2024
The construction of the new, larger toilet facility for the pupils is now in full swing. Thanks to further donations and the proceeds from the Easter sale, we have already been able to transfer the full amount to Uganda. The video by Saad Luyinda shows the construction progress.
25/03/2024
Yesterday, Sunday, the Easter sale took place in favor of the new, larger school toilets in Ulm-Böfingen. The pictures impressively show everything that was made, sawn, planted and otherwise prepared. 2nd Chairwoman Ricarda Simon and her team did a great job and raised a total of 917 euros!
What happened to it? You can see that a few pictures further on. In Bulabakulu, work on the construction of the new toilet facility is already in full swing. With the donations, the construction work in Uganda also flows!
02/02/2024
Now the children can “get started”. Now that the children are back at school after the vacations, they can try out the new drums and play their first tunes.
The school kitchen is also slowly entering its final phase. In the first picture, the building materials for the large ovens are being delivered and unloaded in the second. Progress continues. Funding for the new school kitchen is secured!
02.02.2024
The drums donated by a young German teacher have now arrived at SHAK Junior School and have been tuned. Some of the teachers took the opportunity to give a short demonstration.
And what’s next for the school kitchen? The two large (environmentally friendly) stoves with the matching large pans have been ordered and 70% of the purchase costs have already been paid. We will post photos here as soon as we see the first signs of progress.
18/01/2024
The pace of construction progress is breathtaking: there is news and progress to report almost daily. The walls of the school kitchen are already being plastered.
17/01/2024
Here is a brief photo report on the progress of the construction work on the school kitchen and canteen. The shell with roof is completely finished. In the pictures sent to us by the school principal, you can now see the filling of the interior with earth.
We are also very grateful for a donation of 313 euros for a set of Ugandan musical instruments. We will present the instruments here in pictures.
01/01/2024
Work on the new school kitchen and canteen will of course continue in the new year. The speed with which the donated money is being converted into visible construction progress is truly breathtaking.
The shell of the building was already completed last year. The current focus of the work is on installing the windows and doors. This, writes principal Luyinda, means that the building is now at least protected from all kinds of weather hazards.
